thank-you1

Over the weekend of March 5-7th 2010, I hosted my “One Year Total Business Makeover” workshop event for the first time, in beautiful San Diego, CA.

100 incredible people attended this event, including business owners and entrepreneurs. We gathered at the Sheraton Hotel by the Harbor, and for 3 straight days, we got to work.

I taught some of my best business techniques, tactics, and strategies.  Entrepreneurial guru, John Assaraf, video and internet marketing expert, Mike Koenigs, and renowned business and success coach, Bill Walsh, also contributed their expertise during this event.

Together, John, Mike, Bill, and I combined our skills and knowledge about the best business practices in the world today, and presented them to a room full of some of the most dedicated continuous learners that I have ever met.

The event was an incredible success, and I’m already getting busy planning the next “One Year Total Business Makeover” workshop, which will take place in San Diego, July 9-11th 2010.

To hear real feedback from some of the guests themselves, please watch any or all of the videos below.

If you weren’t able to attend the event, that’s ok! We recorded the entire seminar. Also, if you were able to attend, but would like to own a copy of the seminar, now you can.

Four Do's in Selling Your Ideas to Senior Management
By Patricia Fripp, Expert in Business Communications

Just getting ready for my Speaking School. Communicating to executives is one of the topics that we will discuss.

It's no secret… the higher up the corporate ladder you go the more important your pubic speaking skills become. If you have your sites set on increased responsibility and the position and salary that go with them you will need to position yourself ahead of the crowd in advance. At all stages of your career you need to sell yourself, your ideas, your value, and your ability. To position yourself for promotion you need to learn what it takes to sell yourself and your ideas to senior management. That requires learning high level public speaking skills; learn from these public speaking tips

1. Open with your conclusions. Don't make your senior level audience wait to find out why you are there.
2. Describe the benefits if your recommendation is adopted. Make these benefits seem vivid and obtainable.
3. Describe the costs, and frame them in a positive manner. If possible, show how not following your recommendation will cost even more…
4. List your specific recommendations, and keep it on target. Wandering generalities will lose their interest. You must focus on the bottom line. Report on the deals, not the details.

Closing the Sale…

I am sure that everyone has days like this. Up at dawn or before, off to the first appointment, back to the office, then computer updating…phone calls…collecting your money, making the sale…forgetting to eat. Last night it was really refreshing to listen to Will Murphy talk about the launch of a new product and how his team had spent the last year or so doing the research and getting their act together. He talked about how big companies are really focused now on leveraging the use of social media. And he shared some of his past successes in small business, several of which are now doing big business. Without knowing it, he helped me understand how his role at Emerge Memphis is really part of a small business initiative rather than just another big business getting funding to do new projects. As the evening evolved into something more informal, I was surprised at the energy that filled the room. There were maybe 20 people there. The facilities at The Crescent Club were great and set the stage for making meaningful contacts. I always go to these things with the expectation that I will meet people and make contacts, but not necessarily close the sale right away. Well, I can tell you that we closed out some business last night and set the stage for terrific results in 2010 in several different ways. The glass of wine on an empty stomach went a long way. I’ll probably do this differently next time…or maybe not! Tags: business, networking, referrals

Greed is Good

You probably remember this famous line delivered by fictional character Gordon Gekko in the hit movie Wall Street, played by the always amazing Michael Douglas. Greed has always taken a bad rap, but the the truth is, greed really IS good. Greed is responsible for every major innovation and advancement in human history. Greed is simply excessive desire to get what you want; and it’s greed that built America and every other great nation. I’m sick and tired of listening to big mouth pundits on TV and radio talking about how noble and charitable the American founding fathers were. Are we ever going to move into objective reality? These guys were greedy to be free from their oppressors, and their excessive desire to “live free or die” motivated a small group of otherwise peaceful citizens to take up arms against an enemy that was seemingly imposible to defeat. Thats greed. I have a friend with a very sick child who told me she’ll do anything she has to to raise the money she needs to save her daughters life. That’s greed. When you’ve had enough of working for a boss without a brain and are willing to stake your entire life savings on starting your own business to break free, thats greed. Gekko was right when he said: “Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed in all its forms–greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge–has marked the upward surge of mankind. That’s mental toughness and critical thinking. Listen to this  short audio post, and I’ll look forward to your comments.   Steve Siebold
