Prospecting Tips for a Slow Economy
by Patricia Fripp, CSP, CPAE

Frippicisim: It is not your clients' and prospects' job to remember you. It is your obligation and responsibility to make sure they don't forget you.

1. Don't overlook the obvious. Go through your address book, data base, Christmas card list and confirm everybody you know is familiar with your profession, what your specialty is, and who is the perfect prospect for you to best serve.

2. If you used to work in another industry, update your satisfied clients that you can still serve them in this different capacity.

3. Keep in touch with your present clients more frequently. Not just asking for referrals. The better your relationship with them the more they will want to send you new prospects.

4. One of my friends in the advertising specialty business had a very creative office decor. Anyone who had seen it raved about it. Going up in the elevator of his building of 22 floors I had a conversation with a fellow passenger. I asked, "Do you work in this building or are you visiting?" He mentioned he had worked there for 2 years. I inquired if he had ever heard of my friend Jonathan and his unique and memorable office. He said "No." My recommendation to my friend and everyone else who works in a large building is to every few months go from floor to floor, office to office, and introduce yourself to your neighbors. You could well quadruple your business close to home.

5. Don't forget to work on your sales presentation skills!

Less Stress And More Fun From Dwelling On Our Laughter

14

There are many things that contribute to our happiness and well being and one of those things is laughing. Okay, I know that there are conditions in which it is no laughing matter, but on the other hand, many are. We have a tendency to take our life too humorless sometimes and thereby our health gets worse because we grieve over things which elevate our stress over which we can do nothing about. It is always necessary to be able to laugh at ourselves sometimes. Being sad all the time over frivolous issues is nonsense and only causes us not to be productive individuals.

It is said that Science has finally endorsed the fact that laughter can and does benefit us health wise. There was a report that said in a study of 20 healthy individual volunteers smiled and laughed while watching the comedy, Kingpin, their blood flow magnified by 22 percent, about the same increase caused by aerobic exercise….can you believe that? While the same volunteers watched the tension-filled parts of Saving Private Ryan, their blood flow decreased 35 percent. Astounding, so what does that tell us about being jovial?

It is also said laughterreduces stress and that they have decided that laughter may also improve arterial health by reducing mental stress, which constricts vessels and cuts blood flow. More recently, some studies show that the [spin] therapeutic benefits of laughter not only lowers blood pressure and reduces stress hormones but it also increases muscle flexibly, and boosts immune function by boosting levels of infection-fighting T-cells, disease-fighting proteins call Gamma-interferon and B-cells that produce disease-destroying antibodies. Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, per this study which is the body’s natural painkiller and produces a general sense of well-being.

Okay, now that we know the statics; where do we start? As we endorsed above, life is not always a laughing matter, but a lot of what we deal with on a daily basis could be laughed off if we chose to. Why, because a lot of what we deal with is not a life and death matter. So much of it is silly, petty, good for nothing foolishness that we should just laugh at.

Let’s use an example of this….So, someone else got the promotion and you did not and you worked like a slave to be the best and out do the other candidates. Why did you not win? You are as angry as you can be and would like to tell somebody off…you deserved this promotion; and so on.

My replay would be like this….What will you gain by becoming angry at the boss or the candidate who got the promotion? Why do you think they were considered over you? Was it because they did a better job or because of office politics? Don’t cheat yourself by thinking it was necessarily because they did a better job or because they had more experience. But, if it was, it isessential to be honest with yourself. If it was because of their experience or the many closed deals they had; just remember there are opportunities ahead and that this is not going to kill you. In fact if you laugh about it…it will make you more inventive in finding new ways to be successful and if it were politics…then you sure need to laugh your head off…I am joking of course, because it is their loss. This might be one of those “life is not fair” things but the point is that if you continue to work hard and not give up and keep the right perspective . Your patience will pay off and learning to see the humor of these kinds of situations will give you a clearer view of you choices and the road to keep traveling.

My point is that if we can laugh our way through some of the diminutive things in life…we reduce our chances of becoming unresourceful, resentful and in the long run; less productive humans. What matters anyway? What is the most important part of our life? If we dwell on these things and learn to laugh at the quirky stuff…we will be healthier in mind, body and soul….Shall we laugh?

Make Your Family Life Brighter!

How is possible to make your relations with the husband better?

Bring more humor into your life!

Who has told you, that sex it is serious? Sometimes the best method to return former passion is to laugh. Don’t forget to joke. Laughter — the easiest and most effective form of removal of pressure. If to find the source of jokes, known only to you both, the problem will cease to be a problem. Those who are not capable to find an occasion to joke grow old ahead of time and are less open in dialogue. It is easy with that person, who infects with fun, has sense of humor and can laugh at himself. Happy couples always can read together a cheerful fragment from the book, after all in due course they have an identical approach to everything, including to humor. So they become closer to one another. Well and the deification — partners presume to themselves jokes in bed that, undoubtedly, hardens feelings.

Memoirs — your ally!

My colleague somehow has told: «We have lived with the husband ten years. And if between us there comes some cooling, I take old photos. We sit with the husband in the evening, we look them, and we recollect that good that was between us. Certainly, we smile and laugh. Between us pass the necessary fluids. We understand that we still love each other, and we speak about it. And then … we as though move in our first nights, in our passion … In general it is remarkable — to be enamored in own husband!»

You should know thoughts of each other. In happy families the phrase is inadmissible: «You think what I think…» It is not necessary to take the trouble to finish thinking for the partner. This ungrateful business as it is possible to be mistaken. Is better to begin conversation with a question «How do you think…» And then you could praise yourself if your guess has coincided. It will please the partner, and you will have a new possibility to tell one another words of love, which any person wants to hear always.

Flirt!

We know that to flirt with the unknown man is easy: languidly to smile, look so that his heart will beat faster and one million other similar features. It is much more difficult to flirt with own husband!

Well, for example, going on a party or a walk, find the moment to whisper him the scenario of your night. And on a party look in his eyes and touch his arm slightly…

Do not miss possibility to dance. Say compliments, laugh at his jokes, kiss his ear — in general, you know your husband! And you will get indispensable positive result!

Remember: your passion has not gone anywhere! Simply it has become dusty from everyday problems. Blow off from it a dust and enjoy your life!

It is almost impossible to escape the cases when you have to face the how to get your ex back situation. The biggest problem here is that people think too strong about how to get your ex back, instead of putting this whole story in another way. It is not about how to get your ex back, really. This is about how to make it interesting again.

Four Do's in Selling Your Ideas to Senior Management
By Patricia Fripp, Expert in Business Communications

Just getting ready for my Speaking School. Communicating to executives is one of the topics that we will discuss.

It's no secret… the higher up the corporate ladder you go the more important your pubic speaking skills become. If you have your sites set on increased responsibility and the position and salary that go with them you will need to position yourself ahead of the crowd in advance. At all stages of your career you need to sell yourself, your ideas, your value, and your ability. To position yourself for promotion you need to learn what it takes to sell yourself and your ideas to senior management. That requires learning high level public speaking skills; learn from these public speaking tips

1. Open with your conclusions. Don't make your senior level audience wait to find out why you are there.
2. Describe the benefits if your recommendation is adopted. Make these benefits seem vivid and obtainable.
3. Describe the costs, and frame them in a positive manner. If possible, show how not following your recommendation will cost even more…
4. List your specific recommendations, and keep it on target. Wandering generalities will lose their interest. You must focus on the bottom line. Report on the deals, not the details.

Is Your Life Predetermined Or Me Determined?

10
Mar/10

I’ve never been one to sit on my hands and wait for some cosmically pre-ordained life purpose to miraculously reveal itself via a series of dreams, visions or prophecies. Or for an angel to appear at my window with hand-written instructions from God. Although an angel would be pretty cool.

Nor have I been the type to buy into the widely-held view of destiny and I’ve mostly considered (the concept of) fate to be the refuge of the indecisive, the lazy, the fearful and the deluded. But that’s just my (not-very-popular) view. For many people, the traditional concept of destiny provides a level of comfort and if there’s one thing we fearful, lazy creatures like; it’s comfort.

In some ways, destiny is our (perceived) escape clause: life’s all predetermined anyway, so what’s the point of working hard, taking chances, getting uncomfortable and setting goals?

Destiny Schmestiny

People talk about destiny all the time. Especially when they’re talking about big-picture life stuff. Or when they’re rationalising why something didn’t (or won’t) happen. “Don’t worry Darling; it’s not meant to be”. The term destiny has an almost romantic, mystical, feel-good kind of vibe about it. “That was always going to be her destiny” (as the orchestra comes to life in the background).

It seems that no matter what she did (thoughts, behaviours, reactions, decisions, plans, goals) her life, or part thereof, was predetermined by destiny. It was always going to unfold in a certain way. Despite her; not because of her. Apparently some unseen, cosmic force was firmly behind the steering wheel of her life. She didn’t really have to touch the controls because her life path (destiny) was pre-ordained and non-negotiable.

Am I the only person who considers this thinking to be a load of self-limiting, mumbo-jumbo crap? Am I missing something obvious? Why on earth would anyone buy into this? Oh, that’s right; it requires less effort and courage than the alternative.

Beyond our Control

In my opinion, one of the most destructive notions we embrace is the traditional concept of destiny. Why? Because it teaches us that our life, and what we might do, be, create and achieve in this life, is somehow beyond our control. Some people embrace this kind of thinking because it takes pressure off them to steer their ship, shape their own future, and be responsible for what they produce in their world.

Take a look at what conventional ‘wisdom’ teaches us about destiny:

De-sti-ny (noun):

1) The predetermined, usually inevitable or irresistible, course of events.

2) The inevitable or necessary fate to which a particular person or thing is destined; one’s lot.

3) A predetermined course of events considered as something beyond human power or control.

If the above dictionary definitions are to be accepted and believed then I may as well sit on the couch and let life happen to me, around me and despite me, because apparently, it’s all gonna eventuate in a particular way no matter what. It’s predetermined. Inevitable. We’re all just helpless passengers on destiny’s back.

I wish someone had shared this with me earlier; I wouldn’t have wasted so much time making those tough decisions, taking those chances, facing my fears, dealing with my destructive habits, overcoming those obstacles, going to university, working hard and busting my arse to create my best life.

To think that people actually believe this “preordained, inevitable and beyond human power” crap? Give me a bucket. I’ll create my own destiny, thanks.

What about you?
